Information about my work

I began working on smaller textile pieces after 12 years of designing and making large handtufted rugs for both exhibition and commission.

All cushions, tea and egg cosies are handmade from felted, recycled pure wool garments using a combination of hand and machine stitching. Cushions are backed with reused fabrics such as cotton or linen.

I source all wool fabrics myself and some are donated by friends and family. All wool garments are washed in an environmentally friendly detergent prior to making. Jumpers that have previously suffered at the hands of a washing machine can be “donated and resuscitated” into specially commissioned textiles pieces, totally one-off. Making something useful and desirable out of something no longer needed is a satisfying challenge.

Ideas for my work come from observations of the natural world - leaves, pebbles and weathered objects and my interest in pre and post war British artists and designers. Inspiration stems from my sketchbooks as well as my ever-growing collection of found objects.
Currently I am exploring the illustrative qualities of my artwork and aim to bring these elements into my textile pieces. Experimenting with and combining colours in order to create a visual balance is central to everything I make.
